Il progressive rock è più vivo che mai. Dimenticate la semplice nostalgia: oggi il genere è pura, vibrante creatività. Se gli anni '80 sono stati il decennio del revival e i '90 quello della consacrazione globale, il nuovo millennio segna una vera e propria rivoluzione stilistica. Grazie a una tecnica strumentale impeccabile, le nuove band sfidano i limiti esplorando territori sonori del tutto inediti.

L'annata in corso ne è la prova perfetta. Basti pensare all'ambiziosa opera rock degli Schoolptree ("Heterotopia"), al nuovo, attesissimo lavoro della Premiata Forneria Marconi ("Emotional Tattoos") o al capolavoro dei norvegesi Wobbler ("From Silence To Somewhere"). A impreziosire il panorama troviamo inoltre certezze assolute come Kaipa, The Tangent, Magenta, Bubblemath e Steve Hackett.

In questo panorama in continuo fermento, spicca chi sa rinnovare il genere mantenendone intatto lo spirito sperimentale. È il caso dei Big Big Train. Con la pubblicazione del loro 12° album in studio, "The Second Brightest Star", si sono conquistati un posto d'onore. Il loro sound evocativo fonde in modo magistrale la grandiosità del prog classico con liriche profondamente radicate nella storia britannica.
